The Indian Premier League (IPL) Media Rights for 2023 to 2027 have been sold for Rs â¹47,333 Crore (Digital and TV combined), reports claimed, adding that the television and digital broadcast rights have been won by two different companies. This is in line with the BCCI's push for sharing the broadcast rights with multiple players in order to expand its reach. With the latest rounds of auctioning, IPL is set to earn over Rs 100 crore per match.

With this, the Indian Premier League (IPL) now become the second most valued sporting league in the world, surpassing English Premier League (EPL) and  National Basketball Association (NBA). For the unversed, IPL media rights comprise four separate buckets âTV rights for India, digital rights for India, non-exclusive set of 18 matches for digital (India), and the rest of the world.
The BCCI will make the final announcement of the winner of the TV and digital rights as the bidding for Packages B (incremental), Packages C, and D is yet to go on. Earlier, the TV and digital rights of IPL were held by Disney-owned Star India.Â
Key highlights from IPL Media Rights 2023-27 Auction
- Reports claimed that package A and B of the right which includes TV and Digital has been sold for a whopping Rs 47,333 crore, something happening for the first time in Indian sports.
- Earlier on Friday, global retail giant, Amazon had withdrawn itself from the Indian Premier League media rights auction race.
- IPL is set to earn Rs 105.5 crores per game, a record for the 15-year-old league.
- Package A for 410 IPL matches in next five seasons has been bough by Star India for Rs 23,758 crore. They will have the TV Rights for the next five season of IPL.
- Package B of the IPL with digital rights for the next five seasons has been acquired by Viacom18 for 23,575 crore.
- Package C which includes some of the high voltage matches of the season including the opening match, final and weekend matches (total 98 matches) was bought by Viacom18 for whopping Rs 3,257 crore. This means Rs 33.24 crore per match. The base price of the package C set by BCCI was Rs 11 crore.
- Package D was bought by Viacom18 and Times Internet for 1,057 crores and they will have the rights of the overseas media rights of IPL.
- IPL is now the second most valued sporting league in the world in terms of the value per match. The current value of "Brand IPL" is Rs. 48,390 cr.
- A total of 7 companiesâZee Group, Sony Pictures, Viacom-led JV, Disney+Hotstar, Culver Max Entertainment, Times Internet, and Fun Asia participated in the media auction.

IPL Media rights and its evolution
For the 2017-22 cycle every match of IPL had the cost of Rs 55 cr. Star India had the rights for both TV and Digital rights of that cycle with 16,347.50 cr.
